The Idaho Credit Union League is the official state trade association serving credit unions in Idaho. Organized in 1936, the Idaho Credit Union League provides credit unions with representation, products, services and programs to meet present and future challenges. Credit unions are cooperative, not-for-profit financial institutions owned and democratically controlled by their members. More than 500,000 Idahoans belong to credit unions. Credit unions pay dues to belong to the Idaho Credit Union League. In return, the League provides them with education and training, lobbying activities, legal assistance, technical assistance, research and new product development, marketing ideas, and public relations services. The League also publishes a monthly newsletter for credit union management, staff, and volunteers called the Gem.

bullet Nominations Received for League Board Seat

Robert Taylor, CEO of Idaho State University FCU, has been nominated to the Southeast Regional Voting District seat on the Idaho Credit Union League’s Board of Directors. Rob has over 20 years service in the credit union movement, a Bachelors of Science Degree in Finance, and multiple professional designations. Rob says, “I want to serve on the Idaho Credit Union League Board of Directors because I’m concerned about the viability of many of our credit unions due to the massive amount of regulation now being recommended and adopted by Congress. I also want to ensure Idaho credit unions’ voices are heard as the corporate credit union debacle is being restructured.” Rob currently serves on the League’s Governmental Affairs Committee.

Karma Samartino, Senior Vice President of Icon CU (formerly Idahy CU), has been nominated to the Southwest Regional Voting District seat. Karma says, "The experience I have gained from being on the Idaho Credit Union League and League Services boards has proven invaluable in my understanding of the need to preserve the trade association for Idaho credit unions. I believe I am now contributing effectively to both organizations because of my experience. I would appreciate having the honor to serve again on the boards of these two organizations." Karma currently serves on the League Board and is Chairman of the League Services Board.

Chris Loseth, President/CEO of Potlatch No. 1 FCU, has been nominated to the North Idaho Regional Voting District seat. Chris says, "I want to serve as the North RVD League Director representing all the Northern credit unions with regard to operational, legislative, compliance, and chartering issues through the Idaho Credit Union League, the Credit Union National Association, and our regulatory bodies. I want credit unions to thrive in the North RVD during these difficult times through committing my time to assist wherever possible in making all North RVD credit unions successful in serving current and potential members. I will assist the Idaho Credit Union League on state and national issues where I can best serve with my credit union experience." Chris currently serves as Chairman of the League's Governmental Affairs Committee.

Val Guenther, CEO of Lewis Clark CU, has been nominated to the North Idaho Regional Voting District seat. Val says, "I have worked at Lewis Clark CU for almost 32 years. The short time I have served on the League Services Board, I've learned how important the League is to the credit unions of Idaho and equally how important the credit unions are to the League. The next couple years will be difficult for all credit unions, especially the smaller ones. I would like to use my experience to help guide the League through these times to benefit the credit unions of Idaho." Val currently serves as the Vice Chair on the League Services Board.

Nominations for the three regional seats are being accepted until January 19, 2010. Voting will take place between January 21 and March 18. For more information, email Kathy Thomson or call (800) 627-1820 x 128.

    Invest in America

Become A Part of Invest in America Today!

Invest in America was designed to help your credit union increase member volume and satisfaction, adding value to membership. We've teamed up with great U.S. based companies like GM and Chrysler to bring members significant savings on new vehicles. But we're not stopping there. We're continually in talks with other significant and trusted American companies to offer members additional discount programs in the future.

Since it started, Invest in America has achieved remarkable results:

    • Almost 100,000 vehicles were sold during the first three months of the program, resulting in $2.1 billion in revenue for GM and Chrysler.

    • About 80% of vehicles sold through Invest in America have been financed through credit unions.

    • This program has brought in nearly $1.27 billion in new auto loans, raising the credit union market share to 25% (up from 14% the same time last year).

Our goal is to bring everyone together in these difficult times, get behind U.S. companies and bring more added value to credit union members nationwide. To learn more about Invest in America, please visit LoveMyCreditUnion.org by clicking on the banner.

  • Credit Union Philosophy Certification
In today's credit union, it is not enough to know how to price products and services. Everyone, including directors, managers, and staff, needs to understand why credit unions are in the business they are in and what makes us unique.

The strongest spokespeople for the Credit Union Movement are staff, volunteers, and engaged members. We are proud to announce that more than 1,060 credit union employees and volunteers in Idaho have received their certification in Credit Union Philosophy.

In fact, several credit unions have made completion of the Credit Union Philosophy Manual part of their new employee and board of director orientation programs.

The Philosophy Manual and Test are available in PDF format and can be downloaded from this website's "Popular Downloads" menu, so that credit unions can print as many copies as they need for their volunteers and staff. There is also a PowerPoint presentation that credit unions can use to make presentations to volunteers, staff, or others interested in learning about the credit union difference.

Email Kathy Thomson or call 343-4841 or 1-800-627-1820 ext. 128 for more information.
